We at Hope for a Better Future Vocational Training Institute (HOBEFI) believe that access to practical, green skills is the key to unlocking sustainable livelihoods and driving Cameroon’s energy transition. This belief came to life over the past month as we successfully completed our One-Month Crash Course in Solar Energy, welcoming a dynamic group of young learners ready to power change.
A Practical, Future-Ready Training Experience
Over the course of four intensive weeks, participants engaged in a hands-on curriculum tailored to equip them with the technical skills and entrepreneurial mindset required in today’s renewable energy landscape. The training covered four key modules:
• Power Sizing & Energy Needs Assessment – Understanding how to evaluate household or community energy demands and design appropriate solar systems.
• Site Selection & Installation – Learning how to identify suitable installation sites and safely set up solar panels.
• Material Testing & Quality Assurance – Ensuring system reliability through proper selection and testing of solar components.
• Troubleshooting & Maintenance – Developing the skills to diagnose and fix common system issues for long-term functionality.
💼 Beyond Technical Skills: Green Entrepreneurship
The program also included an entrepreneurship session led by our Executive Director, Mr. Ngo Abdulai, introducing participants to the Business Model Canvas. This powerful tool helped them see how their new skills can be transformed into sustainable business ventures—empowering them not just to find jobs, but to create them.
